Sparkill
Sparkill is a hidden gem located in the Hudson Valley – fifteen miles from Manhattan, but a million miles away. This small and friendly town is one of several “hamlets” in Orange town, an historically rich community – diverse, welcoming, and known for the quality of its schools, government services and life in general.
Named in 1870 for the tidal creek that played a vital role in the early settlement and success of Orangetown, the Hamlet of Sparkill was known first as Blanch’s Crossing, then Tappan Slote, and Upper Piermont. It was part of lands included in the Van Purmerant and Tappan Patents of the late 1600s.
With a population of approximately 1,800 people, Sparkill offers residents a rural feel with beautiful open land, parks, a skating pond, many historic houses of worship, and is a foodie’s paradise with collection of highly-rated and popular restaurants, including Joe Printz’ D’Vine Bar, next to the famous Grape D’Vine wine store, Pueblito Latino dining and grocery, The Mountain House pizza, Hinode Sushi, Sparkill Steakhouse, TacoCat food truck, the Noble Caféand coffee shop, and Autumn, a recently opened French eatery.
The popular restaurant Roost relocated from the space Autumn now holds, and joined with the Union Arts Center of New York, and earlier this year opened a beautiful restaurant and garden on the ground floor, Roost offers upscale dining in a casual setting. Their menu features American bistro cuisine with a Mediterranean influence and is home to Sparkill’s first raw bar.
While gatherings take place upstairs, including concerts, exhibitions, talks and special events, downstairs Co-Owners Maria Santini & Chef Kevin Reilly support the work of local fine art photographers by displaying their work.
